Where to stay for your Marrakesh honeymoon
Gabrielle Avraham from bespoke travel design agency Gabrielle’s List shares where to stay for your Marrakesh honeymoon.
Marrakesh is an A-list hot spot and one of the most in-vogue honeymoon destinations, offering a wide-ranging selection of some of the best and most opulent hotels in the world. Each hotel entails a unique set of experiences, ambiences and styles, while striving to deliver an authentically Moroccan experience. Yet, one property stands alone as the most exquisitely authentic Marrakesh retreat: La Mamounia Marrakesh.
La Mamounia 3
La Mamounia was established in 1923 and was renovated in 2006 to be brought back to its original glory by world-class architect and designer, Jacques Garcia (his most famous creations include the acclaimed Hôtel Costes and The Peninsula in Paris). This legendary property, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, has been visited by some of history’s most prominent figures from Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt to Mick Jagger. More recently, the hotel has hosted celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek Pinault and Gwyneth Paltrow, to name a few, as well as the wedding of socialite Poppy Delevingne in 2014.
La Mamounia offers 209 rooms and suites, including three three-bedroom riads (or traditional Moroccan homes equipped with private pools), all of which are lavishly decorated and incorporate majestic Moroccan accents of dark wood, vibrant tiles, and silver.

The hotel offers a varied culinary experience exemplified by its four superb restaurants. Le Français, Le Marocain and L’Italien craft authentic French, Moroccan and Italian gastronomy in gorgeous settings, while the fourth restaurant, Le Pavillon de la Piscine, is a glamorous option for lunch by the pool. Moreover, guests can choose from La Mamounia’s ultra-chic bars including Churchill, the Pool Bar and, our personal favourite, Le Marocain.
La Mamounia 2
The Spa at La Mamounia is an essential experience when staying at the hotel (even if you’re not it’s a must as it is even open to non-hotel guests). This mesmerising spa, which is inspired by a blend of Moroccan and Eastern traditions and cultures, offers massages, traditional and modern treatments, a hairdressing salon and, of course, the Instagram-famous indoor pool.
All of this splendour and indulgence adds up to an indulgent and exotic choice for your honeymoon, or any romantic getaway.
